Use physical movements and concrete examples. For nouns, have them point to or touch objects. For verbs, act out the actions together. Create a simple chant like 'Nouns are things we see and touch, verbs are actions we can do much!'
Make it a routine to check every sentence using the 'traffic light' method - green light (capital) to start, red light (period) to stop. Have them physically point to these marks in each sentence they write.
Start with very simple sentence frames like '___ runs' or '___ is big.' Help them fill in nouns first, then expand gradually. Ensure they can identify the 'who' or 'what' and the action in every sentence.
Your child should be able to identify basic nouns and verbs in isolation and write simple 3-4 word sentences independently. If they struggle with these basics, practice easier identification activities first.
Turn it into games - go on 'noun hunts' around the house, act out verbs charades-style, or create silly sentences together. Use their favorite characters or interests in example sentences to maintain engagement.
