Picture matching is developmentally appropriate for K students because it builds vocabulary without requiring reading skills. Young children are visual learners who connect images to words through recognition rather than decoding. This is completely normal at the kindergarten level. Rather than correcting them, say the picture names aloud again together and ask 'Which one is the ___?' Give them a second chance to match.
