Even division (where numbers divide evenly with no remainder) builds foundational understanding and confidence. It allows students to focus on the concept of division and the inverse relationship with multiplication without the added cognitive load of understanding remainders. Remainders are typically introduced in Grade 4, so Grade 3 worksheets like this one focus on division that results in whole numbers only.
This is common! Many students know 3 × 4 = 12 but struggle to reverse that thinking to see 12 ÷ 3 = 4. Try explicitly connecting them: write '3 × 4 = 12' and directly below write '12 ÷ 3 = 4.' Use language like 'Division is multiplication backward' and repeatedly show the connection side-by-side before expecting fluency on division alone.
For medium difficulty Grade 3 division, using visual strategies (drawings, counters, arrays) on every problem is appropriate and encouraged. Mental math will develop naturally with repeated exposure. Forcing mental math too early often leads to guessing and discourages learners. Let strategies guide them to the right answer; speed comes later in Grade 4.
Your student should be ready if they: (1) can skip count by 2s, 3s, and 5s, (2) know most of their multiplication facts up to 10×10, and (3) understand the concept of equal groups. If they struggle with any of these, work on those skills first before tackling this worksheet, or provide heavy use of manipulatives throughout.

Speed without accuracy indicates they are guessing rather than truly understanding division. Slow down and have them explain or show their work for incorrect problems. Ask them to use counters or draw the problem out, which will help catch conceptual misunderstandings. It's better to do 5 problems with deep understanding than 15 problems with shallow comprehension at this stage.
